Blank Blocks plugin window

Learn what to check when the Blocks plugin window appears blank

The plugin may appear blank due to several factors related to your computer or network. In this article, we’ll share a few steps that may help you fix the issue.

1. Windows user permissions

In some cases, the issue may be related to Windows user permissions. Depending on the type of account used to access the computer, certain restrictions may prevent Revit and the Blocks plugin from working properly.

To avoid this type of restriction, we recommend running Revit as an administrator. This helps ensure that the software has the permissions it needs to access the internet.

If the issue persists, check whether your Windows account has the required permissions, or contact your company’s IT team.

2. Network settings and internet connection

The plugin needs an internet connection to work properly. Make sure your computer is connected to a stable Wi-Fi or wired network, and that your router allows apps like Revit and the Blocks plugin to connect to the internet.

You can also run a quick check:

  • If you use a wired connection, make sure the network cable is properly connected.

  • Make sure the router is plugged in.

  • Check that the router lights are on and working normally.

If everything looks fine but the plugin still won’t load, unplug the router, wait a few minutes, and plug it back in. This will not change your router settings. It only helps reset the connection.

Then, restart your computer, reconnect to the internet, and check whether the issue is resolved.

3. Firewall

Your firewall may be blocking Revit or the Blocks plugin from connecting to the internet. This can affect family downloads from our library.

Check your inbound and outbound firewall rules for any blocks related to Autodesk, Revit, or the Blocks plugin. If you find any, remove them and restart your computer.

Be careful when changing firewall settings, since the firewall helps protect your system. Allowing connections for the Blocks plugin is safe.

4. Revit update

Autodesk releases regular updates, or builds, for each Revit version. These updates include important improvements and fixes.

Since the Blocks plugin runs inside Revit, both Revit and the plugin need to be up to date. You can check your Revit build using the reference image below:

Visit Autodesk’s official website to check the latest build for your Revit version. You can find the Revit versions compatible with the Blocks plugin on the plugin download page in the App Store:

If the message “Not Found” appears in the blank plugin window, your Revit version may not be compatible with the plugin, or the plugin installed on your computer may be out of date.

5. Plugin update

By default, the Blocks plugin updates automatically on the computer where it’s installed. However, if an error occurs, you’ll need to update it manually.

Check the latest version on the Blocks plugin download page in the App Store and compare it with the version installed on your computer. You can also read the Plugin version article for more details.

If your version is out of date, download the latest installer from the App Store. Make sure Revit is completely closed, then run the installation until it’s complete. The old version will be replaced automatically.

Note: If your version is 1.0.3 or earlier, we recommend uninstalling it before installing the new version.
